Truth for Today, Hope for Tomorrow

April 7-May 2 • Grants Pass Seventh-day Adventist Church

Truth for Today, Hope for Tomorrow, a series of meetings by Steve King, a local businessman and former RJ Reynolds rep, starts April 7 at the Grants Pass Seventh-day Adventist Church. This series will take a look at an ancient work of literature and evaluating if it has any relevance to today's society. Learn to Sail

April 16, 23, 30 • Girl Scout Building, Medford • 7-9 p.m.

Rogue Yacht Club offers a Learn to Sail class. Topics will include basic sailing theory, water safety, knot tying, introduction to cruising and practice on the water in small boats. This class will be held at the Girl Scout Building, 2001 N. Keeneway in Medford, April 16, 23 and 30 from 7-9 p.m. and at Emigrant Lake Boat Launch area, May 7 and 14 from 4:30-7 p.m. There is no cost, however donations are gladly accepted. Ballet Magnificat!

April 21 • Bethel Church, Medford • 7:00 p.m.

Ballet Magnificat (mag-ni-fi-cot), America's premier Christian Ballet Company, will be performing at Bethel Church at Vista Pointe on Monday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. Ballet Magnificat, directed by Kathy Thibodeaux, silver medalist at the 1982 USA International Ballet Competition, will be performing "The Scarlet Cord", Rahab's story of a heart revolution. Siskiyou Wycliffe Banquet

Yreka Community Center, 810 N. Oregon St., Yreka, will be the setting for the Wycliffe Associates Banquet April 21 at 7 p.m. Special Speaker is Michael, translator/linguist working in Asia. Academic Masters Competition

April 23 • Performing Arts Center, Grants Pass High School • 6:30 p.m.

Come watch the best of the best high school students in Josephine County vie for cash awards in the 25th Academic Masters Competition on April 23rd at the Performing Arts Center at Grants Pass High School. Five students from each of four public high schools compete in Engish, Math, Music, Science, and Social Studies, judged by instructors from Rogue Community College. National Day of Prayer Breakfast

April 24 • Josephine County Fairgrounds, Grants Pass • 6:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

A National Day of Prayer Breakfast will be held in Grants Pass on Thursday, April 24 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Pavilion Building. Doors open at 6:30 a.m., breakfast at 6:45, and the program at 7:00 a.m. The event includes a full breakfast, prayer, video, and music. David Barton, founder and president of WallBuilders, will be presenting an engaging message on the important role prayer played in the establishment of this country. Kerbyville Museum reopening

Jackson County Master Gardener Spring Fair

April 26-27 • Jackson County Expo & Fairgrounds

It's a Spring tradition in the Rogue Valley...the Jackson County Master Gardener Spring Fair! This year celebrating "Roots, Shoots, and Rubber Boots". The 29th annual Spring Fair is the largest plant event of its kind in Southern Oregon and this year it is being held Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27 at the Jackson County Expo and Fairgrounds. Hours of the Fair will be Saturday 9a.m- 5p.m. and Sunday 10a.m.- 4p.m. Admission is $2.00, children 12 and under are no charge. Proceeds help fund the many Master Gardener community outreach educational programs.

Natonal Day of Prayer - Josephine County Courthouse

On Thursday, May 1st, Grants Pass will be celebrating the National Day of Prayer with a special prayer event on the steps of the Josephine County Courthouse. The event theme is "Let Prayer Be Your Strength and Shield This Hour!" There is no admission for this event. Prayers will cover important issues of family, crime, education, local economy, leadership, and the armed forces. Aglow International Spring Conference

March of Dimes - March for Babies

More than 200 participants from the Jackson County area are expected to join March for Babies on Saturday, May 3, at Bear Creek Park in Medford. Proceeds will support research and programs to give local babies a healthier start. A major March of Dimes priority is to reduce the growing rate of premature birth. Trainining for Volunteer Advocates and Investigators

May 7 • Medford

Volunteer advocates and investigators are needed to serve as ombusdmen for residents of nursing homes, residential care facilities, assisted living facilities and adult foster care homes. The Office of the Long Term Care Ombudsman will train the volunteers on the aging process, communication skills, problem-solving skills, investigation and other ombudsman skills. The certification training will begin on Wednesday, May 7 in Medford. As Certified Ombusdmen, the volunteers work to improve the quality of life of residents' lives, by identifiying and investigating complaints and concerns on behalf of the residents, then working with the facilities to make changes. Magic of Theatre Summer Camps

Summer 2008 • Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts

This summer the Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts (OCPA) presents its 7th stimulating season of educational theatre camps for youth ages 6 to 18. The first camp, for 12-18 year olds, features Shakespeare's The Tempest. The second camp, for chldren 6 to 12, is Tom Sawyer: The Musical. The last camp of the summer is for 13 to 18 year olds and will present one of American's most popular musicals, West Side Story. Registration has begun for all three camps and is on a first-come/first-served basis. Foster parents are responsible for providing care, supervision, basic needs, skills training and documentation.
