
Leon Hunsaker has been a meteorologist for over 50 years. Twenty-five of those years were spent at stations KPIX in San Francisco and KOBI and KTVL in Medford, Oregon. Leon trained to become a meteorologist for the US Air Force in 1950.
In early 1963, Leon accurately predicted, 3 days in advance, the devastating floods of 1964 in Oregon & Northern California. He was featured in a documentary, entitled: "Head for the High Ground" produced and aired by KPIX in San Francisco.
He went on to found JetStream Weather in 1979, which supplied forecasts to a network of radio stations in Wyoming, Oregon and Northern California in the 1980-90’s. At one time, there were 28 stations in the network.
Leon received the Oregon Broadcasters Broadcast Heritage award for contributions to Oregon’s broadcast industry in 1999.
Leon is married to Margaret. They have two sons, two daughters, seventeen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Leon and his wife reside in Southern Oregon.
